Bhola speaks on the way foward for Agriculture in Grenada under an NNP Government

BHOLA SPEAKS ON THE WAY FORWARD FOR AGRICULTURE IN GRENADA UNDER AN NNP GOVERNMENT

Monday 9th July 2012: New National Party General Secretary and Shadow Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Honorable Roland Bhola has laid out sections of the NNP's plans for the improvement of the Agriculture Industry on forming the next Government of Grenada. Bhola was at the time addressing thousands of jubilant supporters of the New National Party at their post-Convention Rally at the Telescope Playing Field yesterday Sunday 8th July 2008.

Bhola, who was returned as General Secretary of the Party un-opposed, spoke of several specific areas which the NNP will be focusing on immediately on reclaiming the seat of Government. He pointed to the implementation of the Farm Roads Project which the party sees as a means of providing employment while directly assisting the farmers of the nation along with the provision of a regular supply of fertilizer.

The NNP General Secretary also spoke of the re-establishment of a Farmers and Fishermen's Fund which will be based on the previous program run by the former NNP Administration. He vowed to ensure that the new fund is properly managed as this was one of the shortcomings of the previous program. Echoing statements made by Political Leader of the NNP, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell during meetings held with the farmers and fishermen over the past four years Bhola spoke of the reorganization of the Marketing and National Importing Board (MNIB) as key to the improvement of the agricultural industry.

The New National Party staged their 25th Annual Convention at the St. Andrew Anglican Secondary School (SAASS). The convention was followed by a massive rally where thousands of Grenadians turned out to hear the plans and programs of the New National Party as their Government in waiting

NNP STAGES SUCCESSFUL CONVENTION AND RALLY

Monday 9th July, 2012 : The New National Party has celebrated its 28th year in existence with the staging of its 25th Annual Convention at the St. Andrew Anglican Secondary School (SAASS) on Sunday 8th July 2012. The party which is presently preparing itself for General Elections was in an upbeat mood at the Convention which was followed by a massive rally at the nearby Telescope Playing Field.

The convention held under the theme: Reviewing our Past, Charting our Future. NNP – The Only Answer attracted some four hundred delegates from every part of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique monitored by several hundred observers providing a fresh mandate to the New National Party Executive with only minor changes in the composition of floor members and in the position of Assistant Recording Secretary where former parliamentarian and government minister, Mrs. Brenda Hood replaced Mr. Stan Phillip who was elected as a floor member of the party. Dr. Keith Mitchell was returned unopposed as Political Leader as was the majority of positions on the executive as follows:

In his statement at the completion of the convention Political Leader Dr. the rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell spoke to the delegates and observers gathered about the importance of the registration process. He also referred to the fact that many Grenadians had not taken the opportunity over the past six months to ensure that they are registered to vote come Election Day whenever it is called. He called on the members of his party to pay particular attention to the voter registration process and  to constituency organizational work while working with the magnificent team of men and women who comprise the united team of the New National Party.

The Convention was followed by a Massive Rally at the Telescope Playing Field where thousands of Grenadians came together to participate in the rescue mission and hear the message of hope from the New National Party who did not disappoint them. Two times Member of Parliament and General Secretary of the Party Honorable Roland Bhola spoke on the issue of Agriculture and Fisheries while there were also presentations on the Economy by Senator Anthony Boatswain and on Legal and Foreign Affairs by Honorable Elvin Nimrod.  The activity ended with a wide ranging presentation by the Political Leader and Former Prime Minister Dr. the Rt. Honorable Keith Mitchell where he outlined the way forward for the party and country and the NNP's vision for the development of Grenada.

This Convention and Rally follows on the heels of several major activities by the New National Party for the first half of 2012 including major rallies in Gouyave St. John and in Carriacou as the party continues to place itself on an election footing.  The photos and videos of the Convention and Rally can be seen at www.nnp.gd

lack of transparency and contempt on the part of the Prime Minister

St. George's, Grenada, 5th July, 2012:  The Member of Parliament for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Hon. Elvin G. Nimrod says that the refusal by Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas to answer a question about the source of us$50,000.00 which he admitted was deposited into his personal bank account demonstrates arrogance, lack of transparency and contempt on the part of the Prime Minister.

Mr. Nimrod said that after first denying allegations that a sum of money was deposited into the personal bank account of a top Government Minister, Prime Minister Thomas was forced to admit he received US$50,000.00 into his personal bank account as a contribution to his Political Party (NDC) from a source which the Prime Minister consistently and defiantly refused to disclose to the Grenadian people.

 

According to Mr. Nimrod, during the last sitting of Parliament on Tuesday May 26th, 2012 Prime Minister Thomas was asked to state the specific source of the US$50,000.00 which he admitted to have received but instead of showing transparency in answering the question, the Prime Minister of transparency and integrity chose to seek refuge and take cover under Standing Order No.22 (4) of the rules of Parliament which says in essence that a minister may decline or refuse to answer a question if in the opinion of the Minister the answer would be contrary to the public interest.

 

According to Mr. Nimrod the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique have a right and a compelling interest in knowing the source of this money that was deposited in the Prime Minister's personal account contrary to the Prime Minister ill- founded belief that his disclosure of the source will be contrary to the public interest.

 

Mr. Nimrod says that he is now convinced more than ever and that the whole nation should also be so convinced that the continued refusal by the Prime Minister to disclose the source of the US$50,000.00 is a telling indication that the money might have possibly come from an illegal source such as money laundering, drug trafficking or terrorist financing which violates our Law on Terrorism.

 

Mr. Nimrod said it is obvious that the Prime Minister is more interested in protecting the identity of some suspicious Foreign Donor than upholding the laws of his country and satisfying the needs  of his people.

Mr. Nimrod also stated that the Parliamentary privilege of refusing to answer a question which may be contrary to the public interest pertains to Ministers in their ministerial capacities and should not be invoked by the Prime Minister who claimed that he received the US$50,000.00 in his capacity as Political Leader of his party and not in his capacity as Prime Minister.

 

The Member of Parliament for Carriacou and Petite is calling on Prime Minister the Hon. Tillman Thomas to ease the anxiety, frustration and fears of the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique by letting them know the true source of the US $50, 000.00 which was deposited in his personal bank account.

 

Mr. Nimrod is also calling on Prime Minister Tillman Thomas to demonstrate his commitment to the principle of accountability by giving a full and accurate account as to how the US $50,000.00 was spent. In light of the fact, that the general secretary of the NDC has denied any knowledge of the receipt and use of such funds.

According to Mr. Nimrod until and unless such disclosure is made the Prime Minister cannot claim the moral authority to lead the nation or even to continue to utter words such as transparency, accountability, good governance and integrity in public
